Bangle Size Guide

Two Ways to Measure Your Bangle Size

Method 1: Paper Strip Method (Most Common)

No special tools required. Suitable for any type of bangle.

You Will Need:

  • A strip of paper or string
  • A pen
  • A ruler

Steps:

  • Press your fingers together and fold your thumb across your palm. This is the position your hand takes when passing through a bangle.
  • Wrap the paper strip snugly around your knuckles — the widest part of your hand.
  • Mark the point where the strip overlaps with a small line.
  • Lay the strip flat and measure from the starting point to the mark. This is your hand circumference in millimetres (mm).
  • Divide the measurement by 3.14 to calculate the inner diameter.

Example:
190 mm ÷ 3.14 = 60.5 mm → Size Medium (2-8)

  • Add 2–4 mm if you prefer a more comfortable fit rather than a snug fit.

Method 2: Existing Bangle Method (Most Accurate)

If you already own a bangle that fits perfectly, this is the easiest and most accurate method.

Steps:

  • Place the bangle flat on a table.
  • Measure straight across the inside of the bangle from one inner edge to the other.
  • The measurement in millimetres (mm) is your bangle size.

For the most precise reading, use calipers. A ruler placed across the centre also works well.

Note on Indian Sizing

  • The Indian sizing system (2-2, 2-4, 2-6, etc.) refers to fractions of an inch. Sizes typically increase in 2 mm increments.
  • If a brand uses only S / M / L sizing, always cross-check using the inner diameter in millimetres before purchasing.

5 Tips to Get Your Size Right

1. Measure in the Afternoon

  • Hands naturally swell slightly throughout the day. Measuring in the morning may result in a bangle that feels tight by evening.

2. Avoid Measuring in Cold Weather

  • Cold temperatures can cause fingers and hands to shrink, leading to inaccurate sizing.

3. When in Doubt, Size Up

  • A bangle that is even 2 mm too small may not pass over your knuckles. If you are between sizes, always choose the larger size.

4. Rigid vs. Hinged Bangles

  • For rigid bangles with no opening, your knuckle circumference is the most important measurement.
For hinged or adjustable bangles, use your wrist measurement instead.

5. Ask for Measurements in MM

  • When purchasing from jewellers — especially Indian or South Asian brands — always ask for the inner diameter in millimetres. Lettered sizing (S/M/L) can vary across brands and countries.
